Exploring these two maps in tandem shows a tendency for the higher rates of obesity to exist in counties with higher eligibilities for the SNAP program. This is not a coincidence. It is called the obesity paradox. The theory behind this phenomena that we aim to address is the lower cost of highly processed foods. The lack of accessability to affordable fresh produce creates a financial barrier to health.
